In letters to Monmouth County Council, the Government declares its intention of definitely abandoning the River Severn bridge scheme, in view . of the heavy expenditure entailed in the national defence programme. Both • the Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport decline to receive a deputation from South Wales public authorities, which was to press the Government to proceed with the bridge.
