"National" Taxi Drivers' Boxing Display.

The boxing club of the National Motor Cab Co., Ltd., held its last display of tine season at the Windsor Castle Gaieige., King Street, Hammersmith, W., on Thursday evening last, the 23rd inst. An excellent programme was arranged and the event was well patronized, there being -upwards of 800 present. J. Osborne. of Hammersmith and St. James's Garage, retained the light-weight championship of the cab trade. J. Philips, the challenger, retiring in the fourth round.

.A contest which afforded much interest was that between J. Bishop, of Fulham Garage, and B. Whitehead, of Hammersmith Garage. Bishop was 42 years of age on the day of the event, and had driven a cab For the ,past 22 years. He has followed the "noble art " during the greater part of his life, this being his last appearance in the ring. It was a lo-round contest, and each man seemed to hold

his own throughout, but the referee finally awarded the decision in Whitehead's favour. Mr. J. St. A. Jewell, of Bruhn's Taxameter, Ltd., who was master of ceremonies, is to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements for the evening. Popular Sunday Services.

Each succeeding Sunday brings fresh proof with it of the popularity of the independent motorbus—of the vehicle %% ankh is not tied to a rigid track or a central station. Many hundreds of local councillors, who from time to time visit the Metropolis on personal or public business, are thoroughly impressed with the results that have been achieved, and with pending developments. Each of these men goes back to his own city or town entirely converted to the claims of the modern public-service vehicle, and we are increasingly convinced that no councillor will in the future dare to support before his constituents a rail-bound service which does not permit the worker to get away on Sundays and holidays from the routes .which they must pass at other times. It is only by means of the independent motorbus that this can be effected.
