• 11,Iachins Transport has been ordered to make a redundancy payment of £2,700 to its former Holbeach depot yard manager, after he left during a trial period of alternative employment at the firm's Spalding depot.
A Lincoln Industrial Tribunal was told that B Osborn was offered alternative employment at Spalding, when the company closed its Ilo!beach depot. He said he would prefer redundancy, hut the company was not prepared to give it.
He started work at Spalding on the understanding that it was for a four-week trial period but left two days later to start a job as an HGV driver.
The tribunal said that if Osborn had left without sure prospect of immediate employment, then his decision to reject the alternative employment would have been unreasonable. However, he had given the work at Spalding a trial.
