• The ON Car decoker from Forte Lubricants is claimed to _ reduce the time taken for a decoke by 70% which is not surprising, as the cylinder head is left in place.
An airline is used to blast the inlet valves of a petrol engine with a non-metallic abrasive that is hard enough to remove carbon but not to damage metal.
The abrasive is applied by a hand-held lance inserted through the flexible hoot of a universal adapter bolted to the inlet port. By moving the lance around the abrasive can be directed all over. the valve and port.
After the abrasive cycle compressed air flushes out the grit and carbon and returns it to a filter. The abrasive is flammable so if any is left in the inlet port it will burn harmlessly in the combustion chamber, says Forte.
