The facilities will include a tarmac rking area for several hundred lorries er three acres at Tide Mills Newhaven irbour. The parking area will be surunded by a security fence and lighting towers.
The lorry park will be connected to the country road network by a level crossing alongside the harbour station.
The new park will facilitate smoother transit of freight traffic to and from the cross-Channel ferries. And British Rail, the harbour authority, is providing vehicles to shift containers from artics should they be required.
British Rail plans to have the new part in use by this time next year.
