AHAWICK operator, who was alleged to have grossly overloadred his bus, appeared at Hawick Sheriff Court last week and admitted that he had overloaded the vehicle on the road between Hawick and Denbolm, on August 7. The bus contained 31 adults and 12 juveniles. It was stated that passengers were standing in the passage-way from the back to the driver's seat. The bus. was a 20-seater.

On behalf of the accused it was stated that he had yielded to persuasion by people who were going farther afield and had other connections to catch.

Accused, who was admonished on a charge of failing to wear a public service vehicle badge, was fined £2. ..

WINDING-UP ORDER DISMISSED.

AN order made by Mr. Justice Simonds on July 25 last, on the petition of the British Motor Trust Co., Ltd., for the compulsory winding-up of the Pride of the East Cbaches, Ltd., was mentioned to Mr. Justice Morton in the Vacation Court last week,

Counsel for the petitioner now stated that the compulsory order had not been

drawn up, and it had been agreed that it should be discharged and the petition dismissed, on terms arrived at between the parties. The Pride of the East Coaches, Ltd., had paid an agreed sum for costs and an instalment of the debt and would pay the balance of the debt within two months.

Mr, Justice Morton said that by consent tho winding-up petition would be dismissed on the terms agreed.

NEW TIME-TABLES IN ELGIN.

AT a special sitting in Aberdeen, last week, the Traffic Commissioners for the Northern Area of Scotland, granted approval to new time-tables for afr. Henry MacDonald, of Elgin. It was explained that the Services had been retimed with a view to relieving the congestion in the main thoroughfare at the stance in .High Street, Elgin, and to be helpful to passengers travelling between Elgin and Forres, via Kenos, Dallas and Raiford.

Special road service licences were granted to a number of applicants in connection . with the Aboyne and • Braemar Highland Gatherings, on September 7 arid 8, respectively. 843
