A few days ago, Leyland Motors, Ltd., secured an order for its 2,000th hydraulic torque converter. Emanating from Sheffield Corporation, which already operates 131 Leyland buses with this class of equipment, the order is for a further 11 single-deck buses with hydraulic transmission.

Introduced five years ago, the Leyland torque converter is now incorporated in railcars operated in six different countries, and is used by 34 British bus-operating municipalities, as well as by London Transport.

Special Bodies for Fordsons.

..Specifications and prices of an extensive range of special bodies, now available on the .various Fordson chassis, have just been issued by the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., Dagenham. Except in a few exceptional cases, delivery can be given almost as quickly as with normal van and -lorry bodywork.

A number of the bodies is of the large-capacity type, suitable for the furniture, laundry and similar trades, whilst two market gardeners' bodies are included, as well as a cattle carrier, which is readily convertible to a dropsided lorry body or a platform body. These bodies have many special features that should interest operators whose needs are not met by the more standardized patterns.

New Approaches to Seaham Harbour.

.Two railway level crossings, which have long been a serious obstacle to the .progress and development of the district around Seaham .Harbour, Durham, are to be eliminated by building a new 'bad; at an estimated cost of

i123,000. A grant from the Road Fund will account for three-quarters of the cost, and the balance will be borne equally by Seaham. Urban District Council and Durham County Council. The level crossings are on the only routes leading to Seaham Harbour from the west and south. One is at Seaham Colliery, on the Londonderry Road, and the other at Dawdon, on the road to Murton.

Transport Classes at a London Polytechnic,

Chiswick Polytechnic, Bath Road, Bedford Park, London, W.4, has issued a leaflet giving details of 'the evening courses in transport, which will he a feature of its winter session, commencing on September 19. The courses are designed primarily for the benefit of employees engaged in the administrative and operative sides of the industry, who are preparing for the examinations of the Institute of Transport, the Industrial Transport Association and the Royal Society of Arts Diploma in road transport.

Ten subjects figure in the full course, the fee for the session being 30s. when this is taken, or 12s. 6d. per single subject. The Principal of the Polytechnic will be available, for interview by students during the week commencing Sep tember 12.
