Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CONSIDERABLE difficulties are often experienced, when the transport of large and bulky loads has to be undertaken, in securing sufficient loading space on the ordinary goodscarrying vehicle. It is here that the combination vehicle is able to he turned to account, for by the use of a semitrailing unit, it is possible to secure increased loading area.

The photographs which we reproduce herewith indicate the suitability of this -type of vehicle for such work, and show two unusual loads which are being transported by Foden tractor-lorries. In one 'case the vehicle is loaded with a standard Foden chassis, built to carry a 14-ft. body, ready for transit to the , Liverpool Docks for export overseas. The actual dimensions of the case are

23 ft. 2 ins. long, 4 ft. 11 and 5 ft. 8 ins, deep, and the weighs 6 tons 3 cwt. ins, wide total load

The other picture shows a similar type of vehicle engaged in the transportation of a heavy centre lathe of

long dimensions and a drilling machine.

.Features of the Foden tractor-lorry are its low loading line, its flexibility and the small dimensions of the turning circle in which it can be manreuvred. The construction of the frame and plat. form(which have been patented by Fodens, pd.) render it possible to keep the platform down to a level almost as low as that of the company's well-known 6-ton standard-type steam wagon.
