• West Midland Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh wants every disciplinary inquiry to receive publicity in the trade press.

The TC made this comment when litrevoked the licence held by Taylor International Service, of Tamworth, after the company failed to appear a i Birmingham disciplinary inquiry.

Mervyn Pugh had earlier adjourned the consideration of possible disciplinary action after director Lorraine Taylor had told him that she was unaware of unpaid fines in France of 9,150FF and 8,600FE or that one of the company's five Community authorisations was missing (CM 4-10 Sept).

Solicitors for the company had written to say they had decided to close down after coverage of the previous hearing in the trade press probably meant that the company was going to lose its sole contract.

Mervyn Pugh commented that it was a pity that every disciplinary inquiry was not reported in trade magazines as the public would then know which operators ought to be avoided from time to time.

He said the solici tor's letter also mentioned that the company had received no notification of any fines or court proceedings in France. Also, the driver had stated that he had been stopped by French police for no reason and they had demanded a payment before allowing him to continue.

That was directly contrary to the information that had been passed to the Department of Transport by the French authorities, said Mervyn Pugh.
