Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YEOWARTS, the Whitehaven, Cumbria operator in competition with Cumberland Motor Services, is planning to run more stage services.

Proprietor John Yeowart told CM that his two buses are at present operating at half the fare level charged when the service started last year. Yeowarts had introduced a return fare to match that offered by CMS and competition had reduced this to 20p return in contrast with the non-competitive fare level of 32p single.

Despite the reduced fare levels Mr Yeowart said that the service is still viable and that he has plans to extend his stage operation in the town.

Yeowarts are preparing applications for two further stage routes and one short rural service from Whitehaven which will increase the use of the buses in his fleet. The company was criticised in the past for imperilling CMS's rural services, and only operating town services.
