Hand-operated Compressor A HAND-OPERATED compressor, designed for the rapid .t—k inflation of all types of tyres and for the provision of small quantities of compressed air at pressures up to 120 p.s.i., has been introduced by Errut Products Ltd. The design of the tool eliminates the high degree of resistance normally associated with hand pumping and gives a continuous high rate of flow to the vessel being pumped.

The compressor uses a piston of 1h-in. diameter and 20-in. stroke to pump air through a high-capacity non-return valve to a receiver which surrounds the pump cylinder. The non-return valve takes the form of a large number of ports at the base of the cylinder, the ports being sealed by a thin, flexible disc which is opened by the pump stroke to give a high valve clearanceand a low air velocity. This allows a high pumping rate to be achieved with a small amount of effort. Air is passed to the tyre at a constant rate from the receiver that surrounds the pump cylinder. Any non-return valve used is opened separately by a standard valve-opening attachment fitted at the end of the delivery hose. Pressure in the tyre being pumped is shown by a gauge protected by a guard. Overall height from the top of the wooden tee bar handle to the base of the compressor is 24 in., the external diameter being 2 in. Total weight, including delivery hose, is 6116. -Inflation times for a wide range of tyres are claimed to be much• shorter than with conventional types of hand pump Latest Buyers' Guide THE 1964 edition of "Buyers' Guide to the Motor Industry of Great Britain ", recently published by the Society et Motor Manufacturers and Traders Ltd., appears in new style.
