livestock and produce was once more in evidence last Friday, when Mr. Henry Riches, Northern Scotland Licensing Authority, sat in Aberdeen. Mr. Gavin Smith, Durris, made application to -take over the business of Mr. James Bremner, Dyce. The
L.N.E. Railway Co. objected. Mr. Smith stated that in the district there was a need for facilities for the transport of livestock and agricultural pro duce. Admitting that Mr. Bremner had given up his business because he was unable to meet his liabilities, Mr. Smith maintained that livestock carrying could be made to pay.
In granting the licence, Mr. Riches said that when the applicant came forward for a renewal, he would have to prove the demand.
American Sales Best Since 1929.
Factory sales of motor vehicles to dealers in the United States, in August, totalled 206,041 cars and commercial vehicles, the largest number for any August since 1329 and a 15-per-cent. gain on the figure for the same month of last year.
The August figure brought total sales for the first eight months of -this year, by members of the Automobile Manufacturers, Association, to 2,505, .1 units, .27 per cent, more than , for, the same months last year and 80 per cent. more than the average for the period during the past' five years. The figures cover operations of all motor manufacturers, except the Ford Motor Co.. which is not amember of the Association.
By-passing a Leicester Village. Leicester County Council has prepared a scheme for constructing a new road, which will enable the LeicesterCoventry road to by-pass the village of Narborough. It is estimated to cost 88,000 and a grant from the Road _Fund has been made.
New Lightweight Tractor Tried Out.
Messrs. Teasdale Brothers, of Darlington, recently arranged a demonstration of a new lightweight tractor, which is claimed to be the lightest on the market and weighs only 16icwt. Ploughing was done to a depth up to 8 ins, and about six pints of vaporizing oil were used for an hour's work. It is claimed that six acres of land can Ile ploughed in a nine-hour day. The demonstration was attended by about 50 farmers.
