A court has called for an restigation of how drivers' urs regulations are applied to my drivers. This follows an cident last October involving eight-tonne army truck iven by a soldier who had had six hours' sleep in the evious 50 hours.
Private Neil Phillips of ExCoventry fell asleep at the aeel and crashed into a )yota car driven by Alice Gala of Thormanby near Thirsk. le suffered multiple injuries. Easingwold Magistrates ourt heard that Phillips' reiests for rest were ignored 7 his sergeant in the Royal orps of Transport. Magistrate talcolm Rowe said: "He (Phil)s) should not have been reed to drive beyond the limit his endurance on public tads."
The army is reviewing the :cident and a report will be nt to the commanding officer . Germany.
Phillips admitted driving arelessly and was fined £50. owe said there were "special rcumstances" in this case and id not endorse Phillips' ence.
Galvin is claiming compensaon from the army.
