• Doubts over the maintenance of vehicles operated by Greybeard Antiques, and about the firm's financial resources, have led North Eastern Deputy Licensing Authority John Hampton to adjourn its application for a new international licence for four vehicles and two trailers.
Adjourning the hearing, after hearing financial evidence in private at the request of the partners, Hampton said he was not satisfied about the company's financial position.
He was also concerned about the condition of the vehicles and whether records of inspection and maintenance were being kept.' Hampton required the vehicles to be checked by a vehicle examiner and wanted the partners to submit maintenance records for the past 15 months, together with their latest profit and loss account and balance sheet. • Three men accused of stealing a lorry loaded with aluminium on 27 July have been remanded in custody for seven days by the Haksowen magistrates, and a fourth has been given conditional bail.
Harold and Jason Hardman, of War Lane, Birmingham; Joseph Dingley, of Cradley Road, Netherton, Dudley, and Jason Jew of Powke Lane, Rowley Regis, are jointly accused of robbing John Eadie of a leather wallet, cash, cheque and cash cards, and a lorry containing 5,069 sheets of alu
minium valued at £39,950, the property of Aalco.
Hardman and Dingley are accused of jointly conspiring to steal a quantity of metal, the property of Warley Alloys. Dingley is accused of assaulting a police constable with intent to resist arrest.
The magistrates were told that inquiries were continuing as the police believe that a further person is involved.
Hardman, Dingley and Jew were remanded in custody for seven days. Hardman was bailed on a surety of 2500 on condition that he reports to the police three times a week.
