• Land Rover has made a number of improvements to its Range Rover line-up, including uprated engines and an antilock braking option. The long-serving 3.5-litre vee-eight is enlarged to 3,947cc to develop 12% more power — up to 138kW (185hp) — and 14% more torque, at lower revs. The Italian VM turbo-diesel also grows (from 2.4 to 2.5 litres), and now develops 89kW (119hp). Land Rover says that the Discovery's direct-injection diesel was not used because it engine characteristics would not suit the long-distance runs expected of Range Rovers. The other notable change is the adoption of Wabco fourchannel anti-lock brakes. Price will range from £23,784 for tilt turbodiesel to £31,949 for the Vogue SE.
