• G M Buses, once the country's premier minibus operator, has cut its 360-strong operating fleet by over 60 buses, which are up for sale.
Dodge S56 minibuses bought at the time of deregulation were initially used to fend off the challenge from Manchester Minibuses, which also owned over 200 minis.
Recent tender losses, and cuts in opponents' minibus fleets, have led to a fleet re view, which is also cutting fullsize buses.
Minibus operation is felt to be marginal in Manchester; some small buses have been replaced by full-size vehicles as demand has grown.
