• CROSSWAYS (Frating) of Colchester has opened an MAN dealership in East Anglia concentrating on servicing heavy goods vehicles from throughout the UK and the Continent — hence the name of the new company: Crossways (European). Its premises are just outside the main dock entrance in Felixstowe and ideal for vehicles using that port's roll-on/off ferries.
This venture comes fewer than four months after the Colchester company opened a full MAN and Volkswagen commercial vehicle sales and ser vice dealership in Norwich.
MAN trucks are no strangers to the Felixstowe premises since before Crossways took them over in July they were operated as a service dealership by P&O Roadways, which has 60 trucks in the area still being serviced there. A 2100,000 investment in this site includes a new lubrication bay with twin 10-tonne hoists, and new service, parts and reception area and offices. The workshop's light-reflecting and insulated ceiling helps conserve energy and provide a pleasant working environment. P&O Roadways workshop staff have been retained and a new foreman, Adrian Tober, and stores manager, Shaun Durnan, have been appointed. Crossways after-sales manager Peter Coleman is in overall charge.
"It is the new company's intention to progressively improve our servicing facilities in line with the high standard of the best that Continental Europe can offer in preparation for the free market in 1992, hence the choice of name of the new company," says managing director Ray Parrott.
