Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LEEDS and Bradford lorry drivers have followed their Scottish counterparts by seeking a £10 increase in their basic wage rates for next year.

In their claim to the Leeds and Bradford Hauliers' Federation, which meets along with the Road Haulage Association to represent employers, Transport and General Workers' Union drivers have confined their demands to three areas.

They want the present EUX).90 40-hour rate for drivers of 32.5-tonners to be increased to E110.90 and for other rates also to rise by E10.

In line with other drivers, they want overnight subsistence to rise by E2 to 03.65.

And they have asked for a review of the terms and conditions of holiday payment and a "complete rethink" of the way in which :medical severance is treated.

As in other parts of the country, Leeds and Bradford drivers are concerned about the effects of the Department of Transport's plans to lower the age of compulsory medical examinations for HGV drivers to 46.

In North-West England, the United Road Transport Union has made another attempt to reintroduce collective bargaining for drivers.
