EIGHTY-FOUR per cent of all commercial vehicles operated by the 800 member companies of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association were sourced Irons British manufacturers in 1984.
The association says that its members account for around 15 per cent of the total new vehicle market valued at £1.6 billion annually.
During this year, it estimates that members will buy around 200,000 vehicles in the UK and that 90 per cent — 180,000 — will be sourced Irons Britain's major makers.
BVRLA president Freddie Aldous commented: "By sourcing nine out of every 10 vehicles from UK manufacturers it is clear that the industry continues to have the greatest possible respect for their vehicles which are as reliable, economic and well built as any available from abroad."
