Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

VOLKSWAGEN's 4)(4 Transporter — the Synchro (CM, March 9) will not be available in the UK until early 1986, but light commercial operators will be able to see a demonstration vehicle at this month's Scottish Motor Show.

It comprises a large number of steel discs in a sealed drum filled with silicon oil.

In normal driving conditions, all the power is fed to the rear wheels, but once these begin to lose traction the viscous coupling on the front axle engages and feeds power through to the front wheels as well.

Also on display at the Scottish Motor Show will be the face-lifted LI van and chassis cab range (CM, October 5).

The Synchro uses an unusual viscous coupling, instead of a conventional transfer case, which is patented by FE Developments of Coventry and developed for the Transporter by VW and Steyr-Dainder-Puch in Austria.
