LONDON COUNTRY Green Line has launched a high-specification coach service along the M25 ringway between Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
The Speedlink service offers a thrice-hourly inter-airport service with 12m Berkhol-bodied Leyland 'Tiger coaches equipped with toilets and 37 seats and tables.
Hostesses are employed both airports to guide passengers from departure desks to Speed link lounges and coaches.
Cellular phones are installed to provide communications in the event of service delays.
Speedlink concept was designed to provide a successful alternative to the British Caledonian inter-airport helicopter link which is only licensed to continue operating for four months following the opening of the inter-airport motorway link.
British Caledonian wants to extend the helicopter services licence for a further 10 years but it faces opposition by Surrey County Council, the Greater London Council and district councils.
