Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HAULAGE FIRMS which allow their drivers to park lorries overnight in residential areas should be stripped of their operator licences, Ipswich Borough Council has been told.

People are being disturbed at all hours and pavements are being broken up by heavy vehicles, Councillor George King told the council's environmental services and property committee.

When firms apply for 0licences they have to stipulate suitable overnight parking places. The Department of Transport should threaten to withdraw the licences if this was ignored, said King.

"If it means folding up a business, then folding up it will have to be," he added.

The problem of overnight parking in Ipswich is now to be studied by the council's highway and transport committee.

• Leiston in Suffolk is to ban lorries over 7.5 tonnes GVW from its town centre by early next year.

The ban is being imposed to prevent heavy vehicles from driving through the town to Sizewell atomic power station.
