A l'k(xiltAMME. to rationalise Birmingham City Council's internal transport service is already yielding savings of .C60,000 a year and is expected to achieve considerably greater savings.
Following a report by cons ul Laney Arthur Young McClelland Moore, the coun
cil has set up a City Supplies Department to have overall charge of purchasing and operation of the stores run by council departments.
It is planning to standardise On one type of van for deliveries. probably Luton-bodied Ford Transits. New work schedules are being drawn up to eliminate the duplication of delivery runs bv different departments and discussions with trades unions have begun with a view to renegotiating drivers' conditions.
The i60,iiO4) saving has arisen from the combination of three stores into two.
