• A Norfolk lorry driver has successfully applied to the Eastern LA for renewal of his hgv licence following a 2-month ban.

Kenneth Henry Bell, of Sherringham, Norfolk, was called before a public inquiry last week to show that his conduct as a driver was not such as to deprive him from holding a licence.

Mr Bell said that he had been disqualified by Diss magistrates for driving a private car with an excess of alcohl,: in his blood. Friends at a party had laced his two pints of beer with vodka. He wanted to get back to driving and his old job with haulage contractor J. Wyatt Jnr was still open.

The LA said he would take into account Mr Bell's 26 years' driving experience and not order him to take a test. Any further traffic offence could lead to a revocation.
