Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Pl.A COMPLETELY new range of heavyduty folding gooseneck semi-trailers is now offered by R. A. Dyson and Co. Ltd. Folding gooseneck semi-trailers have not previously been available from British trailer makers, the U.S. having been the world's leading supplier of this type of unit.

It is claimed that raising or lowering the gooseneck can be done by two men in about 10 minutes. The whole operation is powered by the tractive unit which carries a winch for the purpose and has a fixed ramp on its chassis at the rear of the fifth .axle coupling. To lower the gooseneck, which is connected to the semi trailer bed by parallel linkages, the tractive unit is reversed into the semitrailer, which has its wheels braked, to take the weight off locking arms located between each of the linkages. These can then be swung to an inoperative position After releasing the fifth-wheel pin and connecting the winch cable to the end of the semi-trailer, the tractive unit is driven forward until the end of the gooseneck reaches the point where the fifthwheel coupling starts to pivot. The winch is then brought into operation to restrict the forward movement of the tractive ;ink as the weight of the trailer acting on the incline of the coupling and the ramp forces it forward. The winch cable continues to be paid out until the gooseneck is resting on the ground, a roller incorporated at the end of the tractive unit ramp catering for the final vertical movement.

For raising the gooseneck the operation is reversed, the winch being used to lift the gooseneck and pull the tractive unit under the semi-trailer.

A prototype 43 ton model was recently shipped to Ghana, and the company has designs for models with capacities ranging from 15 to 60 tons. Designed for operation with a Foden HG.TW 6140 sixwheeled tractive unit, the prototype model was 46 ft. 5-5 in. long and 10 ft. 6 in. wide. The well deck was 25 ft. long and the top folding section 11 ft. 4-5 in. long.

Dyson Extension THE first phase of a plan to increase

throughput of their range of trailers and semi-trailers was completed last week by the opening of a new administrative and service block at the Liverpool factory of R. A. Dyson and Co. Ltd. The 12,000 sq. ft. extension, fronting on Grafton Street and alongside the site the concern has occupied for 122 years, comprises administrative offices, drawing and production-planning offices and service stores accommodating many spares.
