IF an application by the Transport and I. General Workers' Union is granted by the employers, 16 areas in Yorkshire and the West Country will be transferred for road haulage wages purposes from grade 2 to grade 1. The places are:—
Melksham, St. Austell, Dartmouth, Ripon, Falmouth, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Whitby and Borbughbridge, Penryn, Totnes, Bideford, Pickering, Penzance, Paignton, Barnstaple and Brigg.
The' application, which has not yet been formally made to the Road Haulage Wages Council, will be considered first by the area committees of the Road Haulage Association. TWO more tram routes will be converted to motorbus operation by Liverpool Transport Department on Sunday. Both run to Kirkby, some nine miles from the city centre. The bus routes will be partly diverted and extended to serve new housing estates.
Two tram routes will remain after this conversion until June, 1957.,
