• Changes to minimum vehicle size regulations for the truck driving test will still apply from 1 July, even though other changes to the test have been postponed for six months.
The Driving Standards Agency has decreed that artics used for the C+E category test must have a GVW of at least 18 tonnes, must be at least 12m long and must be capable of 50mph.
Some instructors thought these changes had been delayed, along with the harsher test regime delayed to come into force on 1 January 1997. But the DSA has confirmed that the new minimum vehicle restrictions will still apply from 1 July.
Vehicles used for the rigid test (C category) must be at least 7m long. Trailers on a combination test (C+E) must be at least 4m long; the overall combination must have a GVW of at least 18 tonnes, must be at least 12m long, and must be capable of 50mph.
