to rise between 3% and 15% by the year 2000, according to the British Road Federation's Basic Road Statistics 1987.
The report reveals that in 1985 1,367 million tonnes of freight was moved by road, and this is expected to rise to between 1,408 million tonnes and 1,572 million tonnes in the year 2000. Last year U2,700 million was spent on the transport of freight by road, up from .£21,400 in 1985.
