SCOTTISH TRUNKS
• A 270m programme of major Scottish trunk road projects has been announced by Scottish secretary Malcolm Rifkind. Among the major schemes to start this year are the M18 motorway by-pass of Stepps, just north east of Glasgow and the next two stages of the East Fife Regional Road, connecting Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and East Fife with the M90. Two schemes are also to start on by-passes on the A75 connecting the ferry terminal at Stranraer with the motorway.
