• Parcels network organisation System 24 plans a nationwide launch on 1 June, and it is offering any operator it recruits a profit incentive of 214 for every four-box 35kg consignment delivered within 24 hours.
System 24 claims that a customer using one of its licensed couriers will be able to save up to 221, compared with existing major parcels carriers.
The new company is the brainchild of managing director James Rintoul and is backed by import and export operator John Varley. It is in the process of recruiting 30 hauliers throughout Great Britain to join its network of licensees. Rintoul says its recruiting procedure is rigorous and operators are only offered licences after face-to-face interviews and visits to their premises.
"We are building an elite club," says Rintoul. "This will be an organisation built on service and reliability."
The central sorting office for System 24 is close to Birmingham's Spaghetti Junction, and the 30 operators carrying out the collection and delivery service will cover areas which in some cases cover several counties. The same service and price tariff will be used by every licensee and Rintoul hopes that the eventual introduction of a uniform will help promote the organisation's corporate identity.
An invitation to join System 24 brings with it a legally binding contract and entails a joining fee of £3,000. For this, says Rintoul, a licensee can expect "free use of computer equipment and software, backup vehicles and drivers, a guaranteed one-year contract, sales team support, advertising, company literature and reduced overheads."
"The aim of System 24 is to increase the profitability of the small parcels carrier and his customer," says Rintoul. "We should be able to compete with companies like TNT — and offer the customer an extra service."
