• SPD has won a 2150,000 rolling annual distribution contract with Eastbourne-based garden furniture importer Roy Firman. SPD will use three 12-metre trailers finished in Firman's livery for the contract, supplemented by SPD-liveried vehicles during the peak periods of demand between March and August. Up to eight trailers a day will leave from Firman's Eastbourne warehouse, bound for do-it-yourself outlets and garden centres. The contract will be handled by SPD's Aylesford (Kent) depot.
• Cave Wood Transport has upgraded its Sprint Service between Leicester, High Wycombe and Wuppertal, West Germany to a two-way guaranteed 48-hour operation. • Schweppes UK bottling and distribution facilities are being merged with those of CC Soft Drinks and Coca Cola Great Britain. STRADIS, (strategic distribution) software from P-E Consulting Services, is being used to model the new distribution network.
• Ailsa Trucks (Northern) is negotiating to buy a 0.81 hectare (two acre) site at Whistleberry Industrial Estate, Hamilton to build a service station for Volvo coaches.
