FORD'S plans to close its lossmaking Amsterdam factory will mean that over 1,000 iobs will be axed.
The company has made an official application to the works council and the Dutch Government to go ahead with the closure, and a decision is expected shortly.
The Amsterdam factory produces Transits and is the sole production centre for the Transcontinental.
Production of the top-weight Ford will be transferred to another plant in Europe, although exactly which one has not yet been announced.
Amsterdam Transit production could be absorbed by the other factories at Genk and Southampton.
