unilever's cold comfort

ON-BOARD battery chargers and power supply units manufactured by SW Battery Charging Systems Ltd of Bristol have been installed in more than 200 refrigerated vehicles in the Unilever fleet.

The original chargers supplied with the vehicles did not cope with the overnight charging of considerably discharged batteries and running the refrigeration systems, so jeopardising consignments of perishable foods.

A solid-state charger was designed to counter the effects of the most serious discharge. Built-in controllers ensure that batteries are not damaged by high initial charge rates or by overcharge.
