Big Erv tells all

When I met Big Erv Darrough (see picture) the other day he was telling me all about the advantage British operators could get from using American trucks on runs to the Middle East. Looking at the difficulties encountered on this route as described by our deputy editor, maybe Big Erv has a point. He is president of Mid-West Truck and Equipment Locators Inc, which has just opened a London office. Though his company specialises in selling used plant, Big Erv also deals in new and used road trucks.

One of the first deals he is hoping to set up is to sell 19 Meeks with Allis Chalmers engines to a UK or European operator. These vehicles are secondhand and have covered, according to Big Erv, "only 200,000 miles."
