Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A compressor and a thermostatically controlled electro-magnetic clutch are features of a new range of transport refrigeration equipment announced by Hubbard Engineering Co. Ltd., Vancold Works, Martlesham, Woodbridge, Suffolk. Known as the model 400, the equipment is produced in four basic versions.

The 400H is suitable for applications to vehicles carrying fresh food, while the 400L is designed for vans transporting deepfrozen foods and incorporates a reversecycle defrosting system. An electric standby unit is included in 400EH and 400EL equipment which can be plugged into a mains supply if the vehicle is used for overnight storage. The unit is located in the cab or under the vehicle.

Installed in the engine compartment, the compressor is driven from the engine crankshaft by a vee belt, the thermostat of the electro-magnetic clutch automatically disengaging the drive when the required temperature is reached. An evaporator cools and circulates the air in the body space, the electrically driven fan being energized by

the vehicle's electrical system. It is mounted under the roof of the insulated body close to the front bulkhead.

The condenser is installed on the cab roof or on the front bulkhead, where the best use can be made of the vehicle's forward movement to dispel the heat removed from the body. A pair of axial-flow fans is used to supplement the ram effect and to ensure efficient heat transfer when the vehicle is stationary or is travelling slowly.

Compressor mounting kits are available covering applications to a wide variety of vans and light trucks. Each kit includes a mounting bracket, drive pulley, vee belt and all the hardware required for installation. A control box in the driver's cab houses the main control switch. thermostat and bodytemperature thermometer. It also houses the defrost button in the case of the low-temperature models.

The relatively low weight of the equipment is shown by the fact that the 400H version weighs less than 2001b. An approximate price of £350 (installed) is quoted for the equipment.
