• Two 400 Series bulk-powder pressure discharge tanks being built at the Wisbech factory of R. Murfitt Ltd. are destined for a customer in Greece, They are mounted on Murfitt tandem-axle semi-trailer chassis for transporting cement and coupled to Leyland Beaver tractive units for operation at 30 tons gross combination weight.

The light-alloy tanks have a capacity of 585 Cu. ft. and measure 5ft. 6in. diameter. Three loading hatches are located at the top of each tank where there are also full-length walk ways. Front-end Edbro 6 CAM tipping gears are fitted and air for pneumatic discharge will be provided by a Godfrey L800 blower driven from a power take-off fitted to the tractive unit gearbox. A flexible pipe with quick release couplings will be provided to connect the blower on the tractor to semi-trailer system with a second flexible connection for hydraulic oil between the pto /pump and the lines to the tipping gear.

Murfitt has recently delivered another export order of 400 Series pressure tanks to its Continental subsidiary. Four 1,400 Cu. ft. tanks and one 1,240 cu. ft. tank, also mounted on Murfitt 100 Series tipper semi-trailer chassis were supplied with Godfrey air discharge units and Edbro tipping gear for transport of various dry-powder products including pvc powder, potato flour, milk powder and cement. These trailers were sold for operation at 36 tons gross and fitted with Rubery Owen wide-spread bogies and Jost landing gears.
