• A school for the training of drivers and mechanics employed by haulage firms in the mid-Glamorgan area is planned by the newly formed Mid-Glamorgan Road Haulage Training Association Ltd.

Secretary of the association, Mr. Leonard L. Protheroe, told CM that a number of local companies had decided that it would be most economical to pool their resources for the training of new staff. A limited company had recently been set up for this purpose and plans for the building of a school—thought to be the first of its type in the country—had been submitted to the Road Transport Industry Training Board.

When, and if, the plans are realized, it is hoped that the school will be self-financing. At present six large firms have offered loans for the project, intended to be run on a non-profit-making basis.
