Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The GPO has placed contracts for 10 battery-electric vehicles to be used as mail vans, the first going into service in three or four months' time.

The vans will go to different regions, one to the Northern London office, and the others to High Wycombe, Aldershot, Gloucester, Leicester, Newcastle, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Belfast and Newport (Mon). A prototype Morrison-Electricar van has been on trial in Leicester for 18 months.

Each van will weigh 4i tons with a full load—as compared with the present diesel's weight of 31 tons fully laden—and will carry 30cwt 1240 cu. ft.) of mail.

It is hoped that these vehicles will prove cheaper to run and maintain and also that they will have a longer life than the diesels now in use.
