A The initials TIR stand for Transportes Internationale Routiers and ISO stand for International Standards Organisation. TIR is used by road transport operators who are crossing foreign borders. Provided vehicles displaying this sign have been Customssealed at the point of despatch it is unlikely that they will be opened for inspection before reaching their final destination.
The International Standards Organisation lays down standards for equipment used internationally. Used in connection with freight containers it means that the container complies with the dimensions, constructional requirements and fixing methods laid down by the organization. The accepted dimensions are in modules of 10ft x 8ft x 8ft.
