• A massive transport operation is being mounted on Merseyside where a giant steel mill is being dismantled piece by piece and packaged for shipment from Liverpool to China.
Knowsley Freight Services, Liverpool, was given the task of transferring the 700-metre, 6,000-tonne mill and its production line from the site at Bidston to Liverpool docks. A fleet of lorries, including special low-loaders, is being used to ferry everything from a 93-tonne production line gearbox to packets of nuts and bolts to the quayside.
Two 25-tonne mobile cranes and 11-tonne and 4-tonne forklift trucks are on site moving and loading the units. "fhere will be a flow of 25 trucks a day carrying loads for the port.
