• The first three of welfarespecification StarRiders to roll off the Optare production line have gone into service with the West Yorkshire PTE's Metro operation.
They are based on Mercedes 811D chassis and feature Henderson Linwell tail-lifts, Fretwell wheelchair restraints and 16 high-backed coach seats (with seat belts) which are quickly detatchable to increase wheelchair capacity. Non-slip steps and hand rails are highly conspicuous for safety.
