• International Leisure Group has launched Coach Europe with a 23 million fleet to build up a continental network of luxury scheduled services.
Passengers on the doubledecker coaches will be driven by "captains" and offered airline-style meals by uniformed hostesses when Coach Europe begins operations next month.
ILG chairman Harry Goodman says he expects the fleet to grow to 80 by the end of this year and to 250 by 1992. His stated aim is to change the public perception of coach travel and provide a new standard of road transport. Coach Europe will be based in Dover.
