Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE ASSOCIATION of Vehicle Recovery Operators is to meet Department of Transport officials this month to discuss the future of recovery licensing.

In his report to the first annual conference of AVRO in Droitwich at the weekend, director-general John Wells says that the association's memo on the question is under consideration with the Foster Committee report on Operator's licensing.

Mr Wells also says that anomalies on the use of recovery vehicles built to carry passengers but which also use trade plates are also being considered and the law is likely to be changed following AVRO pressure on the DTp.

Liaison with police forces around the country has also been established and Mr Wells says that although this is a long process, he hopes that this will lead to some standardisation of procedures and the recognition of the AVRO categories as a valid yardstick of the operator's ability.

During the year the association has set up working parties to look at the rates and charges of operators and the newly accepted code of conduct.
