A NEW torque converter three-speed I-1 transmission, which is suitable for shovel loaders and so on, based on industrial tractors, and for dumpers, fork-lift trucks and shunting locomotives, was announced last week by J. Brockhouse and Co., Ltd., West Bromwich. Known as the T.T.T., the transmission supplements the company's I.T.T. two-speed type which was designed for direct substitution of the clutch and six-speed gearbox of the Fordson industrial tractor. Various versions are available including a universal four-wheel-drive unit and a universal standard type, both of which are available with two-power take-off for hydraulic pump drive. Of the "power shift" type, the transmission enables the gears to be changed when full torque is being developed by the power unit.
A Brockhouse freewheel type of converter is employed giving a stalling torque of 3 to 1 and a_rnaximum operational torque of about 2 to 1. Standard gear assemblies provide forward ratios of 0.807 to 1, 2.37 to 1 and 3.92 to 1 and reverse ratios of 0.782 to 1, 2.29 to 1 and 3.78 to I.
