MUNICIPAL TRAILERS AND THE NEW ACT.
Tynemouth Transport Committee has decided to ask the Association of Municipal Corporations' and the Institute of Public Cleansing to take steps to have the licensing provisions of the Road and Rail' Traffic Act relaxed so far as trailers for public cleansing are concerned.
Gas Vehicles for Wallasey.
Wallasey Corporation's gas corn: mittee is to instal plant at the gasworks for the use cf coar.gas in place of petrol on seven motor vehicles.
Road Traffic Still Increasing.
Durham county engineer reports that from statistics it would appear that traffic is again increasing and it may well be that, with the present commercial portents, this increase in traffic will continue.
Transport Inquiry at Eccles.
The health committee of Eccles Corporation has asked the chairman and vice-chairman (in consultation with the medical officer) to report on the question of transport facilities generally in .the department.
Morecambe Hauliers Raise Rates.
The Morecambe and Heysham Haulage Association has informed the highways committee of Morecambe Corporation that the haulage rates would be increased from 7s. to 7s. 6d. per hour for time work and from 2s. 6d. to 3s. 3d. per cubic yd. of filling carried, by reason of higher cost of operation.
Rites for Hiring Tippers.
The highways committee of Croydon Corporation recommends the acceptance of the tender of the Croydon Motor Transport Co., for the hire of tipping vehicles, as follow :-5-ton three-way tipper, 46s. fid. a day, with 5s. 4d. per hour overtime; 5-ton endtipper, 46s. Gd. a day, 5s. 4d. an hour overtime ; 30-cwt. end-tipper, 33s. 6d. a day, 5s. an hour overtime.
Indivisible Loads: Shorter Notice of Transport.
As a result of representations by Pickfqrds, Ltd., Westminster City Council is recommended by its highways committee to accept, in urgent cases, notice of the transport of an abnormal indivisible load and indemnity in respect of any damage caused, by letter posted on the day previous to the move and after verbal notice by telephone.
It was pointed out that other authorities had agreed to the proposal and that this course would be adopted only in cases of urgency. The recommendation of the committee is subject to the town clerk's approval of the form of notice and indemnity;
