Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Some van manufacturers offer warranties on used products; we find out who and what they are.

Finding out if used vans carry a manufacturer's warranty can be time-consuming. Some lump their returning vans in with their used car programmes; others have set up their own dedicated used van schemes.

In either system the rules are essentially the same — look for one-year warranties as minimum, and for checks on mileage, finance and service history.

If you buy from a manufacturers' appointed dealer ensure you can exchange or return your chosen vehicle if you're not happy with it.

Some do this as standard practice, while others don't advertise it. But you're the customer so you're always right. After all, it's your money.

Citroen

Citroen's used van network is part of its Approved Used Car scheme. Vans offered via this scheme will be no more than seven years old or have a maximum 75,000 miles on the clock; whichever comes first.

The buyer will get 12 months unlimited warranty which is issued by the manufacturer, rather than backed by insurance. The standard point check is completed as well as a check for any outstanding finance.Vans are sold with a mileage check and a mileage indemnity.

ISOM Used CVs bought from lsuzu through its Assured programme come with an extendible 12month warranty, a pre-sale inspection, and a data check to ensure the vehicle hasn't been stolen, written off, or has outstanding linance.

Isuzu European Assistance for 12 months is available, as well as a 30-day/1,000-mile exchange scheme. Each vehicle gets a vehicle mileage check.

To qualify for the Assured programme vans must be under seven years old or have covered a maximum of 80,000 miles.

LDV

Buy a used Pilot or Convoy and you will get 12 months LDV Mechanical Breakdown Insurance and VANaid roadside assistance.

A vehicle mileage check is completed as well as a multi-point check. LDV offers a 14-day exchange programme.

Peugeot

Like its direct competitors in the van sector the Peugeot Lion Used Car scheme lumps second-hand cars and vans together.They're covered by 12 months' warranty on all components including wear and tear for the first 3,000 miles.

Volkswagen

Every used van sold through Volkswagen's scheme will have had a multi-point check, a full valet and checks on its mileage, identity, outstanding finance and service history.You'll drive away wi h 12-month warranty with no limit on the number or value of claims made, up to the purchase price of the vehicle.

Volkswagen Emergency Assistance offers you 24-hour recovery with a replacement van if repairing your vehicle will take more than 24 hours.
