JOB PROSPECTS for driven have improved significantly since last year, according to a survey 11) recruitment specialist Manpower.
Its latest quarterly survey ol employers shows that the balance between those planning to take on drivers and those planning to cui back is up by 13%.
During the first quarter of last year, the survey showed an equal split between companies planning to increase the numbers of drivers they employ and those planning to cut back their fleets.
Simon Edwards, operations manager of Manpower's driving division, is upbeat about employment prospects in the sector: "Job prospects in driving are increasingly on the rise.
-This is largely driven by the skills shortage facing the driving industry and the increasing demand clients have for good quality drivers.
He adds that the implementation of the Road Transport Directive (RTD) in April led to a surge in demand for drivers as companies started to reduce drivers' hours; "This quarter demand for drivers is still high but the RTD is having less impact."
