Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NCREASED bus fares and poor service were forcing people to buy cars, declared Mr. John Rumble at Devizes (Wilts.) Trades Council meeting last week. "And once they do that they are lost to public transport for..ever," he said.

Yet Bristol Omnibus was asking for "a stiff increase in fares", claiming it was losing £10,000 a year on Devizes services.

At Mr. Rumble's suggestion a committee was appointed to examine public transport in the Devizes area. "We should find out how public transport affects people going to and from work, how much it is costing them and how many firms subsidize their workers' fares," said Mr. Rumble.

Panthers for Exeter: Exeter City Council transport committee has accepted a Leyland Motors Ltd. tender for five 36 ft. Leyland Panther single-decker chassis at a cost of £2,910 each and the tender of Marshall of Cambridge (Engineering) Ltd. for five 49-seat front-entrance, central-eXit bodies, at £3.269 each.
