System 4 is claimed to be cheaper than cellular radio, since hauliers can choose to limit radio coverage to a particular region.
Charles Baker, BT Mobile Communications, says: "Sure, cellphones are more advanced, but if the important thing for operators is simply to keep in touch with drivers at a reasonable cost, System 4 is the answer they've been looking for."
BT claims the equipment for System 4 can be as much as .2300 cheaper than cellular equipment.
