Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Freight Rover is expected to launch a more-powerful turbocharged diesel engine option on its wide-bodied 300 Series Sherpa next autumn — probably in time for the Birmingham Motor Show.

The turbo-diesel Sherpa will be fitted with the same 2.5litre Land Rover engine which was introduced by LR last October. The blown, fourcylinder, indirect-injection unit is based on the 2,495cc naturally-aspirated 52kW (70hp) Land Rover diesel engine, already fitted in the wide-bodied Sherpa range.

Maximum power on the turbo diesel, fitted in the Land Rover, is 63kW (85hp) at 4,000rpm (DIN), although Commercial Motor expects the final power output in the turbo Sherpa to be slightly higher, due to a more efficient exhaust system.

Peak torque will be around 203Nm (1501bft) at 1,800rpm. Like all the Sherpa range, the turbo diesel model will be equipped with a five-speed gearbox.

The decision by Freight Rover to offer a turbocharged diesel on the wide-bodied Sherpa should improve the diesel 300 Series' fuel economy and provide it with the performance punch to compete against the Iveco Ford Turbo Daily and the turbocharged Volkswagen LT.

A turbo diesel Sherpa will allow Freight Rover to compete directly against the Iveco Ford Turbo Daily and Volkswagen's turbocharged diesel LT. The cast-iron, five mainbearing turbo engine uses a Garret AiResearch T2 turbocharger, with an integral wastegate, which boosts pressure to 0.7 bar (10 psi).

Land Rover has developed the engine to minimise turbo lag. The turbocharger cuts in below 1,800rpm to give maximum torque for low speed performance, while the engine's 63kW top-end output provides improved power for cruising and towing.

Freight Rover has launched a new warranty and roadside backup package for its Sherpa van range under the name of Vancare. As well as its existing 12month/unlimited mileage full manufacturers warranty currently offered, operators can now opt for a second and third year warranty extension underwritten by London Wall Insurance, a subsidiary of the RAC.

Operators buying a new Sherpa model from July 1 will be registered into the Vancare programme. In addition to the normal first-year warranty cover, the Sherpa will also be enrolled into the RAC with resultant benefits.

These include roadside assistance, vehicle recovery and also a unique 'Load Continuation Service'. Where it is impossible to repair a vehicle immediately, either at the roadside, or at a local Sherpa dealer, the RAC will offer an operator the option for loads to be transported to any single destination in mainland Britain. The optional second and third year warranties, which cover all major components against failure, can be tailored to suit vehicle mileages. A The Land Rover turbo diesel will offer 15% more power than the existing naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre Sherpa diesel. two-year or 48,000km warranty costs 258, while the second and third year or 72,000km version costs £299. Second year with unlimited mileage costs £198, while second and third year or 104,000km cover costs £394. Until the end of September Freight Rover Finance is also offering a 0% finance deal on all new vehicles.

Freight Rover has increased its UK sales by around 13% • during the first half of 1987, compared to the same period last year.

11 Strong UK sales of the recently-launched Mitsubishi L200 pickup and L300 panel van have put pressure on the Mitsubishi 3.5 tonne Canter chassis cab, according to the Japanese manufacturers' importer. The Colt Car Company.

Colt is restricted by quota to the number of Japanese-built light CVs it can sell in the UK, and says that the popularity of its lighter models has meant holding back on the Canter. It also reports that there are no plans to increase the number of Canter dealers in Britain beyond the 16 based in the South of England.

Since the beginning of the year, Colt has sold 57 Canter chassis cabs.
